I found this Trillium in Olympic National Park. It was hidden from view before a fallen tree. The textured bark provided a perfect backdrop, and soft overcast light made the details stand out beautifully. I remember as I was shooting this flower, that there was a humming bird hovering just out of reach above me. She must have had a nest nearby.
I chose this composition to show off the interesting diagonals. The flower is in sharp focus and I chose and aperture that allowed the background log to go just slightly out of focus. This helped the bright trillium stand out from the background even more than it already does.
