Second Beach Sunset

I love to shoot at Second Beach in Olympic National Park (WA) at low tide, because its gentle slope creates a wide stretch of wet sand that reflects the colors of the sunset.

I used a GND filter to balance the light between the sky and the foreground for this shot. I knew that the distant sea-stacks would be silhouetted – but the details in the dark rocks were uninteresting, and losing them did not take away from the overall photo. Even with the GND filter, I had to use manual blending in selected areas to bring back the details in the sky.
