I love exploring and photographing remote areas with fascinating geology… and nowhere is the geology more incredible than the Southwest US. We found these cool, colorful formations on an Arizona hillside near the road – but to get to them, we had to walk past some bewildered cows. We spent a good part of the evening trying to avoid stepping on cow pies. :)
My original intention was to capture a wider view of this region, but the sky wasn’t quite as fascinating as the geological awesomeness below. Instead, I concentrated on capturing the colors and textures on the ground. I waited to take the shot until the sun had gone over the horizon, leaving this entire area in deep shade.
