The first time I saw a photograph of Dry Tortugas National Park in Florida, I was convinced that I had to visit this place both by sea and by plane. The day before I took this photograph from a small plane, I was on the beaches near the fort. The place is just as beautiful from the sand!
I chartered a plane to fly me from Key West to Dry Trotugas and circle the fort at different heights. I chose an over-wing aircraft so that I could shoot downward without having wings in my shots. I asked the pilot to fly as slowly as possible so that I could open the windows in flight to get the shots I wanted. I used a circular polarizer to bring out the brilliant colors in the water.
